Belter Creole
The creole language of the Belt and the outer planets, called lang Belta by its speakers: English-based, grown out of a working pidgin, and drawing words from Chinese, Slavic, Indic, Romance and Niger-Congo languages.
Belter Creole, called simply Belter in English and lang Belta by its own speakers, is the common language of the Belt and the outer planets. It began as a pidgin. As humanity spread into the Solar System, people from many parts of Earth and Mars lived and worked side by side and needed something to talk in, and over generations that working speech settled into a full creole. Its base is English, with words drawn from Germanic, Chinese, Romance, Indic, Slavic and Niger-Congo languages. A Belter is a belta and Belters as a whole are beltalowda; an Earther is a tumang and a Martian a pomang. Oye is hello, taki is thanks, and sabaka is the all-purpose curse.
