The designation for a group of ships detached from the main fleet, commanded by a commodore or a rear admiral and built around a dreadnought, a battleship or a cruiser.
A battle group is what a navy calls a body of ships detached from the main fleet to work on its own. A commodore or a rear admiral commands it, and the flagship is a dreadnought, a battleship or a cruiser depending on what the group has been sent to do. Numbers are not fixed. The group is assembled for the task.
