The Atira asteroids are the near-Earth asteroids whose orbits lie entirely inside Earth's own. Their aphelion, the farthest point of the orbit from the sun, is smaller than Earth's perihelion of 0.983 astronomical units, so they never reach out past the planet's path. They are by far the smallest of the near-Earth groups, far rarer than the Aten, Apollo and Amor asteroids, and only a few dozen are known.
