A networked ring of United Nations satellites in orbit around Earth, watching for asteroids and space debris on a course for the surface.
Earth is ringed by a network of satellites called Sentinel asteroid spotters, run by the United Nations. They are the planet's first line of defense, watching for the asteroids and pieces of space debris that would reach the surface if nothing caught them, and what they find goes on to the orbital railgun batteries that do the shooting. The satellites are numbered rather than named, Sentinel-16 and Sentinel Nineteen among them.
