Aliana Tanaka is a career military officer. She began in the Martian navy. She grew up in Innis Deep, one of the poorest tunnel neighborhoods of the Martian capital Londres Nova, and after a family tragedy was raised by an aunt who punished sadness and taught her to turn anger into action instead. As an officer she keeps a strict professional surface, exercises authority through calculated strategy and careful management of risk, and drills the marines under her hard enough to earn their respect.
