Aliana Tanaka is a Laconian colonel and Captain Singh's chief of security, who leads the armored landing party that seizes Medina Station and tells its people it is under Laconian control.
Tall and dark-skinned, she wears armor with insignia that look like a reworked Martian colonel's rank. She remembers the Io campaign as a junior officer fighting Belter factions, and she judges Belters stubborn yet tough and resourceful. During the occupation, personnel security falls under her operational command, and there the young captain cannot overrule her.
