April's roommate and girlfriend of over a year, private and thoughtful, and the one asking the hard questions.
Maya holds a job at a real design firm, the only one in her circle to find that kind of work, and although it does not pay well, it is a foot in the door. She is far more put together than April May, with her locks in a fancy updo and her makeup already done while April sleeps in.
The two shared a home for much of college before they started dating, and in their one-bedroom apartment April's bed stands in the living room, though she mostly sleeps in Maya's room. Whether to move in together has turned into a question of hauling the secondhand mattress from the living room so they can sit on a couch to watch Netflix, and so far April has said no.
Maya and April met Andy in junior year, when Professor Kennedy split his class into groups of three, and the three of them have kept in touch.
