Every school of the Murim in The Breaker teaches the same foundation: gathering Ki at the body's centre, circulating it, and releasing it to strengthen a strike, a step or the body itself.

Martial arts in The Breaker are built on inner energy, called Ki, rather than on physical conditioning alone. A practitioner learns to gather Ki at a point in the body known as the Ki centre, circulate it through the body, and release it to strengthen a strike or a movement. Those three stages, air herding, power distribution and blooming through, are the foundation every school of the Murim teaches.

Training starts with breathing exercises that build control over the gathering and flow of Ki, followed by physical work that keeps body and energy in balance. From there the practitioner learns to push Ki outward to sharpen speed, strength, healing and even sight in the dark. The final stage widens the bloodstream to raise the volume of Ki the body can hold, which is the point at which the Murim begins to speak of a real master.
