In The Breaker: New Waves, Black stands among the men who surround the Group of Five, one of the powers that operates alongside the Murim rather than inside it. He belongs to a world of money, guns and influence rather than to any martial arts school, and he is rarely without armed men at his shoulder.
A scar runs across his left eye and he favours striped suits. He keeps a pistol close at hand at nearly all times and treats it as his answer to almost any situation. He is suspicious by nature and cruel with it, quick to read a threat into anyone whose standing might come to rival his own, and impatient with any arrangement he did not make himself.
