Xuan Zi is an Elder of Shrek Academy and one of its main pillars. His appearance is often described as slovenly, and he is commonly seen with either a chicken drumstick or a gourd of wine in his hand, a glutton by necessity as much as habit, since his martial soul, the Godly Taotie Bull, requires him to eat constantly in order to gain more power. He comes across as very strict and stern. Over the course of nearly fifty years, all of the most outstanding inner courtyard disciples who represented the school at the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Grand Tournament have been led by him.
