Ma Hongjun

Recruited to Shrek Academy at the age of nine, Ma Hongjun is one of the young students at the heart of Soul Land, the first series. He comes from a village whose people awaken ordinary poultry martial souls, and he is the only one among them to awaken the Evil Fire Phoenix, a powerful fire spirit with a dangerous, volatile streak that its young owner struggles to control. The academy's dean takes him on as a personal disciple on the strength of that rarity.

Short, chubby, and sturdy, with reddish-brown hair and a round, cheerful face, he is blunt, earthy, and entirely unfiltered, the team's crude joker who says exactly what he thinks. When matters demand seriousness, though, he can set the jokes aside and fight.
