Helen

Helen is Donald's wife, his partner since before his political career began. While he commutes to Washington as a freshman congressman, she keeps their life anchored in Savannah: the house, the routines, their dog Karma, the version of their marriage that exists outside his career. She is warm, direct, and unimpressed by the capital, preferring the life they actually built to the one his ambitions keep gesturing toward. She is watchful about the distance growing between them, and honest about the reasons: the hours his grand new project swallows, and the reappearance in his working life of Anna, a woman from his past whom Helen has never trusted.
