Elise
Elise is a girl of about ten who enters Wool partway through, introducing herself to a stranger, loose tooth and all, with a boldness the careful adults around her lack.
Elise is a young girl, around ten or eleven years old, with a loose tooth she is proud enough of to mention when introducing herself. That introduction is her whole character in miniature: where others hesitate around a stranger, Elise walks up and says her name. She is small, direct, and openhearted, quicker to curiosity than to fear, and inclined to treat every change in her world as news worth sharing rather than a reason to worry. She assumes the best of the people she meets, and says so. Around her, even careful adults find themselves answering honestly.
