Shirly

Shirly is a foreman in Mechanical, one of the steady hands who keep the silo's power flowing from the down deep. She runs the second shift, which makes her one of the few people trusted to manage the main generator's temperamental moods when Juliette, her close friend, is not standing over it herself. She is married to Marck, a senior mechanic who works the same floors, and the two of them belong to the tight, teasing family that Mechanical makes of its own. Practical and warm in equal measure, Shirly is the sort of colleague who checks the gauges twice, remembers whose kid has a birthday, and steps back at the right moment to let a friend take the honors on a job they both sweated over.
