Rickson is a wary teenage boy, about fourteen or fifteen, who enters Wool partway through.
Rickson is a teenage boy, around fourteen or fifteen years old, the son of a plumber. He meets the unfamiliar the way he meets everything: on guard, with something heavy in his hand if he can manage it. Wary, proud, and fiercely protective of his own, Rickson has the temperament of someone who grew up having to be older than his age, and he treats strangers as threats to be faced rather than guests to be welcomed. Underneath the bristle is responsibility: he watches over the people he considers his, and his hostility is loyalty wearing armor.
