Mechanical is the silo's down deep: generator, machine shops, pump rooms, and the tight tribe of mechanics whose work keeps the lights on and the air moving for everyone above.
Mechanical is the down deep of the silo, the cluster of working floors at the bottom of the great spiral staircase. This is where the silo's life support actually lives: the main generator whose turning can be felt through the decking, the machine shops, the pump rooms, the oil works below, and the bunks and mess hall of the men and women who keep it all running. The mechanics of the down deep are their own tribe, bound by shift work, shared meals, and the knowledge that everything above them, lights, air, and water alike, depends on what they do. Visitors are rare; the climb discourages them. Deep in the earth, more than a hundred levels from the view up top, Mechanical hums along regardless.
