Lukas is a young IT server technician who climbs to the dark cafeteria on clear nights to chart stars by hand with a red-filtered flashlight, mapping a sky most of the silo ignores.
Lukas is a young technician in IT, a server-room specialist who spends his days among the humming machines of the silo's most secretive department. His heart, though, lives above his pay grade: on nights when the clouds thin, he carries paper, a pencil, and a red-filtered flashlight up to the darkened cafeteria at the top of the silo and charts stars through the wallscreen's view, plotting each rare point of light by hand. Few people in the silo look up at all. He is gentle, earnest, and a little awkward, devoted to his mother, and better with patterns than with people. The star charts say what he does not quite know how to: that he is someone who needs the world to be bigger than the one he was given.
