Bernard

Bernard is the head of IT, the department near the silo's middle that runs the servers, maintains the wallscreens, and builds the suits used in cleanings. Within his own floors his word is absolute, and outside them his influence travels further than his title strictly allows. He is precise, condescending, and impatient with anyone who mistakes elected office for real authority. He clashes with Mayor Jahns over her choice for the empty sheriff's post: he refuses to endorse Juliette, a mechanic from the down deep, and pushes instead for Peter Billings, a young man of the judicial track more to his liking. To Jahns, watching him gather appointments and allies, Bernard looks like a man quietly assembling a future in which mayors ask his permission.
