Whites stand near the top of the Society's hierarchy of Colors, above every rank but Silver and Gold. They carry both the ritual life of the Society and its law. Many serve as priests and priestesses, consecrating duels, officiating weddings and giving the benediction before a fleet goes into battle, and they are set as tutors to young Golds to teach them their future place. Those who do not take the priesthood run the judiciary, officiating trials, brokering contracts and conducting executions. Whites are raised apart in monastic sanctuaries and temples, taught to divorce themselves from their own humanity and embody the spirit of justice.
