An Obsidian Freelancer running jobs with a band of Luna thieves, Volga is short for her caste, refuses to kill, and saves her earnings toward a patch of Earth for carved animals.
Volga Fjorgan is an Obsidian Freelancer of Luna and a member of Ephraim ti Horn's band of thieves. At six and a half feet she is short for an Obsidian, and having grown up in a modern city rather than the harsh polar country of Mars or Earth she lacks the dense wind calluses of her caste, which leaves her looking less threatening than others like her and her sloping cheekbones more pronounced. Second-rate dental work has left her teeth in poor condition. Ephraim treats her as the crew's killing machine, but she refuses to kill. She spends almost nothing of what she earns, though she likes beer, and she loves the zoo for the popcorn, the animals, and all the happy people in it. What she is saving for is acreage on Earth where she can look after carved animals, zebracores and griffins most of all.
