The Rim is the outer Solar System, the moons beyond the Asteroid Belt ruled by austere Gold houses, proud, disciplined, and still marked by a rebellion crushed decades before.
The Rim is the outer region of the Solar System, taking in the worlds that orbit beyond the Asteroid Belt, above all the settled moons of the gas giants. Its colonization began in the first century after the Conquering, when House Raa raised the city of Sungrave on Io, and its Gold houses have grown into a proud, austere civilization that keeps old customs the Core has let slip.
Rim Golds hold discipline and honor above the luxuries of the inner worlds, and they resent a Senate weighted against them and a Core they regard as decadent. That resentment has boiled over before. Decades before, the First Moon Lord Rebellion rose against the Society and was crushed, a defeat sealed by the Burning of Rhea, the destruction of a settled moon that stands as the Society's harshest lesson in the price of defiance.
