Romulus au Raa is a Gold of Io and the twenty-third ArchGovernor of that moon, styled the twenty-third Lord of the Dust. He is rigid, tough, and above all disciplined, a careful thinker with a respectful manner, charming when he chooses to be, direct rather than fond of games. He extends decency to any guest beneath his roof and holds the breaking of one's word in contempt. He thinks little of the Golds of the Core, whom he finds spoiled, decadent, and savage, and considers the Rim closer in character to the Iron Golds who founded the Society. Violence, to him, is an unpleasant tool not to be reached for lightly. He expects his children to earn comfort rather than receive it, though his affection for them is plain. He is tall and thin, with a twice-broken nose, a blue and black marble orb in place of his left eye, and long dark gold hair tied back.
