They serve as concubines and valets in settings from public brothels to the private households of highColor families, and the Society treats them as property, bought as the slaves of a person or an establishment rather than hired as employees. They are bred for beauty and are physically fragile, their bones easily fractured and their tolerance for pain low. Pinks under the Society are chemically sterilized, and new generations are grown in breeding tubes from varying combinations of donors. Some carry pheromonal defense mechanisms, which provoke intense infatuation in anyone who breathes them in. The rarest and most valued class of Pink is the Rose, as scarce and as costly as a Stained Obsidian. In the Rim, Pinks in service to Gold houses are called Hetaerae.
