Pink is one of the Colors of the Society, and the name hangs over its brothels, from the off-world Pink brothel a Copper official mentions to city brothels lined with Pink ribbon.
In the city Darrow sees Pink among the Color-coded lamps of the lower levels, one of a dozen Colors in a hierarchy so tangled he barely thinks it human. Along a crowded avenue, brothel windows show men and women who each wear a flashing price on a thread, a number that rises and falls with demand, and the sight makes him blush.
