The Oort Cloud is a cloud of billions of icy planetesimals lying beyond the Kuiper Belt and the edge of the solar system, ranging from 299.19 billion to 29.9 trillion kilometers from the sun. The Dutch astronomer Jan Oort first theorized its existence in 1950 AD, and it carries his name. After the Conquering, the Society harvested rockier objects from the cloud, using its dust as a medium for sculpting.
