Octavia au Lune is the Sovereign of the Society at the opening of Red Rising, a Gold of Luna whose authority reaches every world of the Solar System. Cellular rejuvenation therapy has left her with an ageless face, marked only by the scar of a Peerless on her right cheek. She governs as much through the control of information and propaganda as through the Gold legions under her command, and she holds a genuine conviction that the Society is the best world humanity could have built. Toward the subjects she rules she keeps a strange affection, and toward her own family a real tenderness, though the approach of age frightens her. She conceals what she feels better than almost anyone, speaking with perfect composure and giving nothing away.
