Mercury

Mercury is the smallest planet of the Solar System and the closest to the Sun, one of the worlds under the dominion of the Society. It orbits at an average distance of some fifty-eight million kilometers, moving faster than any other planet, and without terraforming its surface swings between furnace heat on the day side and deep cold in shadow.

Under the Society, Mercury is counted among the spheres of the Core, the inner region of the system where Gold power is oldest and strongest. Like its sibling worlds it was remade centuries before, its extremes tamed enough for cities, mines, and industry, and its people sorted into the same color-coded hierarchy that orders life from the Sun out to the ice. Along with Venus, it is one of only two planets in the system without a moon.
