Lykos
Lykos is an underground mining colony on Mars, where Red miners drill for helium-3 and are told they are pioneers whose labor readies the planet for others.
Lykos is among the first colonies dug under Mars, home to twenty-four clans who compete each quarter for a single Laurel: more food than anyone can eat, smokes, imported Earth quilts and stamped swill. Gamma has held the prize for as long as anyone remembers, so the lesser clans mostly scrape to make the Quota. Its people answer hardship with dancing, singing and family, and they mourn the dead with the Fading Dirge, fists slowing against chests until they stop.
