House Bellona is one of three Gold families that hold sway over all others on Mars, the family of Tiberius au Bellona, who commands the Sixth Fleet as Imperator, and bitter rivals of the Family Augustus.
Two of its young men, Cassius and Julian au Bellona, enter the Institute. Julian tells Darrow that one of the Family Bellona cannot go home a failure, while Cassius, quick with a smile and trained to duel, speaks of a family that sees worth in good men whatever their origins. Much of the fleet above Mars belongs to families who owe allegiance either to Bellona or to Augustus.
