Gray
Grays are the police and soldier caste of the Society in Red Rising, disciplined enforcers of the hierarchy who outnumber Golds a thousand to one and fill the ranks of the legions.
Grays are one of the midColors of the Society, the caste order that structures every world. They are its police, its soldiers, and its watchmen, the uniformed arm enforcing the hierarchy from city precincts to the tunnels of Martian mining colonies such as Lykos, where their garrisons keep the Reds at their drills. Gray hair and gray eyes mark the caste, and their numbers outweigh the Golds a thousand to one.
Grays fill the bulk of the Society's legions. Those bound for the military train at academies called Ludus or Agoge alongside Obsidian warriors, and their conditioning prizes discipline, adaptability, and unquestioning duty. Among them stand specialist breeds such as the Lurchers, hunters trained and altered to bring down prey above their own station. Most Grays, though, live ordinary working lives as cops and wardens of the Society's order.
