Fitchner au Barca is a Proctor at the Institute who takes charge of House Mars, a sullen, gum-popping Gold with a hatchet face, a slight paunch and a razor at his hip.
He says he is handed the mad dogs, the killers of their race, and greets the survivors of the Passage with his feet up on the table and a crude insult, telling them the Passage is a Culling in all but name. He runs his students up the rocky heights while he bounds ahead in gravBoots, catches a deer with his razor for their supper, and leaves them to watch from Olympus.
