Eros is a Mars-crossing asteroid about seventeen kilometers across.
Shaped like a bent peanut and about seventeen kilometers across at its mean width, Eros is a real Mars-crossing asteroid. It holds a place in spaceflight history as the first asteroid ever orbited by a spacecraft and the first to host a landing, when the NEAR Shoemaker probe touched down on its surface in 2001.
Eros sits along the shipping routes of the inner Solar System and serves as a trade post and harbor for vessels passing between worlds. Its tunnels hold shops enough to serve visiting crews, among them a candy emporium.
