Dancer O'Faran is a Red of Mars and a former Helldiver of the helium-3 mines. He has rugged features, a body covered in snakebites, and a limp down his left side from nerve damage, and he is more than once called a handsome man by the standards of the Reds. He is fair, kindly, and accommodating, a shrewd and wise leader of his people and naturally suspicious. He has no taste for vicious methods and abhors the torture of prisoners for information. For all his fairness, he has no love of Golds, and stays suspicious and withdrawn around them, never fully trusting one.
