The festivals and feast days kept across the Society, from the Laureltide in the Red mines to the winter solstice observed system wide.
The peoples of the Society keep a calendar of their own. Reds in the helium-3 mines gather for the Laureltide, held on the last night of each quarter with song, music, dance, food and drink, and for Dancetide, a festival of song and dance whose table runs to pitviper blood soup, flaxbread and okrablossom. Golds keep feasts of their own, among them the Trimalchian Feast, a banquet of seven courses named for a character in Petronius's Satyricon. Most of the solar system marks the winter solstice each December with drinking, singing and gift-giving, a celebration the mining colonies call Yuletide.
