The dwarves' own magic, older than Tier Magic and unknown in YGGDRASIL: ninety letters cut into an object to enchant it, worked only by runesmiths and long fallen out of use in the Dwarf Kingdom.

Runecraft (ルーン技術) is the magical art the dwarves practised long before Tier Magic reached them, and one of the few powers of this world, alongside Martial Arts, Wild Magic and Talents, that has no counterpart in YGGDRASIL. It works by cutting magical letters into an object: a rune carefully engraved enchants what it is cut into, and the strength of the enchantment depends on how long the cutting takes. Runes and Tier Magic enchantment repel one another, so a single object cannot carry both. There are ninety runes in all, fifty lesser, twenty-five middle, ten upper and five top, though a great many have been lost. Only a runesmith can cut them, and runesmiths are rarer among dwarves than magic casters. Two centuries ago the art was standard in the Dwarf Kingdom; the Demon God Unrest all but finished it, and younger dwarves have preferred the speed of Tier Magic ever since.
