Guild in Overlord names both the player associations of the game Yggdrasil, up to one hundred members strong with bases and custom NPCs, and the trade associations of the New World's societies.

One word in Overlord bridges its two worlds. In the game Yggdrasil a guild is an association of up to one hundred players banded together to level, conquer dungeons, and challenge rivals, while in the New World the same word keeps its medieval sense, an association of a trade such as merchants or adventurers.

Forming a guild in Yggdrasil takes a registration quest, one of eight possible missions completed perfectly, after which the founder issues invitation scrolls to fill the roster. A guild can conquer a dungeon and convert it into a guild base, inheriting the custom NPCs its members create, and the guildmaster holds sweeping authority, including direct access to those NPCs' settings. Thousands of guilds rise and vanish over the game's life; by the day of the shutdown roughly eight hundred remain.
