Emperor in Overlord is a New World job class and the title borne by rulers of the Baharuth Empire, where heirs are groomed from childhood for a crown that governs through authority, taxation, and fear.
Imperial rule in Overlord's New World carries its own vocabulary. Emperor is a job class native to that world, and at the same time a title, since a ruler can be recognized as emperor without holding the class itself. History regards the emperors of the Baharuth Empire as competent sovereigns, capable of governing through fear when it serves, with special taxes ready for nobles who oppose the crown.
An imperial heir such as Jircniv is raised from childhood as a candidate for the throne, tutored by family and by figures like the court wizard Fluder Paradyne, and drilled in the craft of reading opponents and lowering their guard. Epithets attach to the office, as with the title Bloody Emperor, born of the blood spilled at Jircniv's accession, and every emperor bears the duty of raising the next.
