Dolor Desert
A desert southwest of the continent's centre, home to scorpionmen and genies and to a tornado thousands of metres wide that arrives at its edge once every thirty years, on the same spot, almost to the hour.
A sand region lying a little to the southwest of the centre of the New World's continent, Dolor Desert (ドゥロール砂漠) holds several nations of its own: the Great Kingdom of the Pabilsag scorpionmen, the small genie nation of Slutarn, and nomads who keep a shrine to the Clear Light Dragon. A great empire stood here in the distant past. The desert's best-known feature arrives at its edge once every thirty years, a tornado thousands of metres across and of no measurable height, which comes up in the same place at nearly the same hour each time, so that people from all around gather to watch it as an occasion. Accounts of its cause differ, running from a ritual that went wrong, to a piece of the old capital pushing up through the sand, to a magic item called the Scepter of the Sands, to a gate into another world. Some seasons bring rain, and a variety of races and monsters live out there.
