DMMO-RPG, short for Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, is the form of game at the center of Overlord, played in the world of 2138. It is an advanced version of the role playing and massively multiplayer games before it, run by connecting a proprietary console to the player's brain through the neural nano-interface, an ultracranial nanocomputer network built from the fusion of cyber and nano technology, so that a player enters a virtual world and experiences it much as real life. Limits remain. Software legislation bars these games from providing smell and taste, while touch is heavily restricted so that the virtual is not confused with the real. Forcing someone into a game without permission can be treated as a form of cyber-kidnapping, and up to a week of a player's game activity is kept in a legally mandated record.
