The yearly border skirmishes the Baharuth Empire stages against the Re-Estize Kingdom on the Katze Plains, small enough that the Kingdom's nobles call them a parade and timed to wreck the harvest rather than take ground.

Annual Wars are the yearly border skirmishes fought between the Re-Estize Kingdom and the Baharuth Empire on the Katze Plains. Emperor Jircniv wants an empire that will outlast him, and conquering the neighbouring Kingdom is how he means to get it, but rather than commit to open war he has kept the fighting small and regular. Each year follows the same script: the Imperial Army meets the Royal Army, there is a short scuffle, and the Imperial Army withdraws. The Kingdom's nobles have taken to calling it a parade. The design underneath is patient. The Empire fields career soldiers where the Kingdom calls up draftees, so timing a push for the harvest pulls farmers off their fields, and the failed crops that follow do more damage than the fighting does. Neighbouring nations hold both countries in contempt for the practice, not least because staging it on the Katze Plains risks spreading the undead curse that lies on that ground.
