Ying Nan

Ying Nan is a guardian of Ta Lo, the hidden village of her birth, and the sister of Ying Li. Where the village's first instinct toward outsiders is caution, hers is warmth: she is the one who greets, feeds and dresses a newcomer before anyone else has decided whether to trust them. She keeps the memorial that honors her sister's memory. As a guardian she carries the Great Protector's empowerment, fighting with a Dragon Scale Staff and with currents of moving air, and she teaches as readily as she fights, reminding new arrivals that in Ta Lo, men and women train as equals.
