William Lopez is the father of Maya Lopez and a commander in the Tracksuit Mafia, a New York crime outfit, in Hawkeye. He married Taloa, a deaf Choctaw woman, and their daughter Maya was born deaf as well. The family lived in Tamaha near Taloa's relatives before William took a job in New York City that his brother Henry lined up for him. Money is tight for him. He could not cover the fees for a Deaf school and had to tell Maya she was going to an ordinary one, encouraging her that she could learn plenty simply by watching. He joined the Tracksuits to fix that.
