Venice is the canal city of northeastern Italy. Peter Parker and his classmates from the Midtown School of Science and Technology take a summer trip across Europe, and Venice is their first stop, a city of water taxis, footbridges, and crowded piazzas threaded by the Grand Canal. The students tour the sights and settle into a local hotel to begin their holiday. Venice also stages the first spectacle, when a huge creature of water rises out of the canals, scattering tourists along the waterfront and signaling that Peter's class trip is headed somewhere far stranger than sightseeing.
