Talokan

Talokan is an underwater kingdom and the home of the Talokanil, a people who live on the sea floor, in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Its origins run back to a meteor carrying vibranium that struck near the Yucatán peninsula, sinking to the sea bed and altering the plant life closer to the surface. In 1571 a Yucatán Mayan tribe struck by smallpox was guided to one of those altered plants, and those who took it woke with blue skin and gills and went into the sea to breathe. Calling themselves the Talokanil, they moved down to a depth of roughly twelve thousand feet as human traffic on the trade routes above grew, and built Talokan on the sea floor where the raw vibranium deposits remained. They have kept their existence hidden from the surface since.
