The Stokes Crime Family is one of the biggest criminal organizations in Harlem. Buggy Stokes founded it with his wife, Mabel, and his brother Pete, and built it around Harlem's Paradise, the nightclub that has been the family's home ground ever since. Guns and vice were the business from the start. Narcotics never were, and the family treats that as a rule rather than a preference. Benjamin Donovan, whose way through law school Mabel paid for, handles the legal side. Cornell Stokes, known as Cottonmouth, runs the family now, with his cousin Mariah Dillard on the city council and family money behind her campaigns.
