In Karachi, Pakistan, lives Sana Ali, the maternal grandmother of Kamala Khan and the mother of Muneeba. Her life was shaped by the Partition of India: as a small girl she was separated from her father on a chaotic train platform, and family legend holds that she found her way back to him by following a trail of stars. Her own mother, Aisha, vanished that night and was never seen again, a loss Sana has spent a lifetime circling. Freer-spirited than her daughter, she fills her Karachi home with art, keeps a golden retriever named Magnum, and one day mails her granddaughter a box of old keepsakes, among them a bangle that belonged to Aisha.
