Ronnie Velasco

Ronnie Velasco is chief of the Wappinger Falls Police Department, a small force in a town where she has known most of the people in it since she was a deputy there. That cuts both ways. When a local named Bobby McBurty took a snowblower and gave a statement that did not add up, Velasco worked out exactly what had happened and let him keep walking. When an investigator from out of town wants the file on an old accident, she asks for the court order and does not move without it. The Sallingers are one of the families she has carried for years. She was the one sent to bring Gregory Sallinger home after his brother Donny died under a tractor, and she watched their father turn his grief on the boy and could not do anything about it.
