Romania is a country in Southeastern Europe, and Bucharest is its capital. Under the communist government that held power for much of the twentieth century, public gatherings were not permitted in Bucharest, so people met instead in private homes or in clubs kept out of sight across the city. Some of those clubs stayed in use after the regime ended.
