Puente Antiguo is a small town in New Mexico, and what draws outside attention to it is the sky above it. The astrophysicist Jane Foster moved her research here from Culver University, with her intern Darcy Lewis and, after them, her mentor Erik Selvig, to chase a run of unusual atmospheric disturbances appearing out on the edge of town. Seventeen of them have come in a pattern, and the pattern is the part that interests her; Selvig thinks she is spending a career on nothing. Isabela's Diner is where they eat.
