A self-possessed young woman from Los Angeles, Livvie is the sister of Tamar, who is expecting her first child with Darius Davis. When her mother's sickle cell disease left the family searching for anything that helped, Livvie worked out an avocado-based lotion that eased the symptoms, and word of mouth turned her recipe into a small neighborhood business. While helping her sister get the house ready for the baby, she notices the quiet boy Darius has painting the nursery, a teenager named Alex Wilder, and takes an interest in him despite Tamar's warning that he is wanted by the police and worth staying away from.
