Jano is a member of the community at Druig's Compound. The compound is a village deep in the Amazon rainforest where Druig has kept a group of people apart from the outside world for generations, and Jano lives there among them.
He is one of the men who takes up arms when something comes at the settlement, carrying a rifle out to the treeline with the others. The village keeps conventional firearms on hand for exactly that purpose, and Jano knows how to handle his and how to hold a position with the rest of the defenders.
