James Lucas

The Reverend James Lucas is a preacher from Savannah, Georgia, pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, the congregation his father founded after World War II. He is a man of the pulpit first and of his family second, and the family has paid for the ordering. When his son Carl was sent to prison, Lucas did not visit; Carl wrote him fifty letters, and Lucas sent every one back marked return to sender. Years later, with his son living in Harlem under the name Luke Cage and half the city calling him a hero, Lucas moves to New York, preaching at Mount Olivet and circling the son he does not know how to approach.
